15 Things to Do Instead of Blogging or Surfing the Web

By B. Dear

Although blogging and surfing the web fun and interesting activities, I fear that people may be spending too much time in front of the computer doing things that will be erased forever in the near future. I have friends that spend ridiculous amounts of time working on their web pages trying to remain competitive. The result is that their personal lives suffer.

There are other ways to improve the quality of your life, your health and happiness.  Check them out.

  • Get some exercise. Go for a jog, do some pushups. It may not make you Mr. Universe, but you will feel better.
  • Write a book about something. There has to be a subject rattling around in your head that you can bring to the world.
  • Read a book about something that you would like to learn. By pcking up a good book, you will be improving yourself and improving your writing through reading.
  • Take a class. Self-Improvement is liberating. Become more independent.
  • Take up another hobby. Whether it is fishing, dancing or yoga, you’ll be glad you did.
  • Learn something new that makes you a more interesting person.
  • Sit down and do a little introspection and meditation. Sometimes it’s not what we are doing that’s not working. It is how we are doing it. Take some time to reevaluate how things are going.
  • Review your financial planning and budget. Take time to make sure financial things are in order. Make sure that you are saving enough to retire when you want to.
  • Plan your life. Decide what you want to do with your life.
  • Look for a better job. There’s always a better job out there. Look for a job that pays more and is less demanding on you.
  • Date. If you’re single that is. If you’re married it’s probably a better idea to spend some time with your wife.
  • Recycle something. Build something useful out of old wood. Sculpt from scrap metal. Take household recyclables to the drop off point.
  • Make friends “in the flesh”. Meeting new people is always stimulating.
  • Care for your favorite pet. Give your pet a pat and take them to do their favorite activity.
  • Spend time with your family. Watch your favorite TV program or hold a conversation with those other people who live in your house.
