The Road to Wealth

By B. Dear

Many people believe that being wealthy is something distant, and that they will never achieve it. This is absolutely not true. I believe that wealth is completely within the average person’s reach. They just don’t realize how to achieve it. I’m here to tell you that all it takes is a little discipline, some education, hard work and a good plan.

When I say wealth, I am not only talking about financial wealth, although it is part of the equation. I am also talking about being truly happy, content with life, and having the time to enjoy it all.

Here are some tips to help you create wealth:

Build Knowledge

  • Seek out, capitalize on, and learn to enjoy self improvement opportunities. By this, I don’t mean just attending college classes. What I am referring to is acquiring “know-how”. Make it a regular habit to spend a little time each day learning how to become more competent in your field.
  • Remember that there are a lot of millionaires out there that never even graduated high school. They are successful because they learned to study other successful people and learned how they operate.
  • Read all relevant information you can get your hands on. Read things that will help you learn how to do what you want to do. Don’t waste your time reading things that don’t.
  • Take advantage of the Internet. There is a lot of useful information that others are giving away for free. Before reaching in your pocket and spending money on “get rich quick” programs, do a little research first to see if this information is already available for free.
  • Become familiar with basis business topics such as accounting, finance, law, current events, technology, project and general management, and writing.

Build Wisdom

  • Decide who you are and who you would like to be. This will help you start planning your life and get you on the path toward achieving your goals.
  • Write your plan, ideas and epiphanies in a book and look over your book every day before you start your day.
  • Learn the difference between loyal friends and opportunists. Cut opportunists out of your personal network unless their presence suits your objectives.
  • Study the people around you. Study how they do things. Adopt practices that work, and take note of and steer away from practices that don’t.

Build Power

  • Power is the ability to influence others to help you achieve your goals.
  •  Having power will greatly increase your ability to accomplish your objectives. Build a network or networks of people and gain their trust and admiration. When you need them, these people can really help you out.
  • Make a habit of returning favors when they are done for you, and learn to recognize when helping others will build their loyalty.
  • Be willing to “flex” or use your power to influence others to help ou achieve your goals.

Build Financial Wealth

  • Financial wealth is actually a form of power since it allows you to influence the activities of others to do things for you that they ordinarily wouldn’t. When you use money, you are buying other people’s time and resources and using hem to achieve your goals.
  • Increase your income and decrease your expenditures whenever you are able.
  • Build a financial reserve that will provide a safety net. The “safety net” will give you confidence and flexibility when negotiating with others. It allows you to change your position from a “Reacting” to a “Planning” stance.
  • Invest some of your money. Get your money working, so that you don’t have to. Money that isn’t moving, isn’t earning.
  • A large financial reserve will increase your power enormously, since people naturally gravitate to money.

Maximize Your Time

  • Know what you’re doing before you do it. By planning your moves, you will be able to react quickly.
  • You’re wealthy now. Your time is valuable. Know what your time is worth. If your time is worth $100 per hour and you will be doing something else in lieu of making that $100, you are actually spending $100 to do it. Turn away activities and work that is not worth your time.
  • Ditch activities that don’t return. Know when you are wasting your time.
  • Maximize the use of help from others. There is strength in numbers.
  • Don’t get tied up in other people’s battles if they don’t deserve your help.
